- Houston Neighborhoods That Are a Home Run for Astros’ Stars
Now, 12 years into his career, Altuve is among the most prolific playoff performers in MLB history for an annual World Series contender. The heart of baseball beats downtown in Houston near the home of the Astros’ stadium, Minute Maid Park. Instead of hiding its local shrine to the game in a far-flung suburb, the city offers a sky-scraping backdrop for the home games of its American League champions. As a result, condos make up the selection of upper-end homes for sale near Houston’s diamond. Bregman hit his 16th home run of the season off Oakland pitcher Cole Irvin in the first inning.
Mancini made his debut with the Astros on Tuesday, pinch-hitting in the ninth inning and grounding out in an eventual 2-1 loss. He made his first start Wednesday, clobbering a two-run bomb to left in the second inning to give Houston a 4-0 lead. When it comes to Altuve postseason home runs, this one stands apart in a category of its own. The Astros led the Yankees after each of the first eight innings in Game 6 of the 2019 ALCS, but New York was able to plate two runs in the top of the ninth to tie the game up. Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman—who was coming off his sixth of seven All-Star seasons, and who hadn't allowed a run in his previous eight playoff appearances—walked Springer with two outs, bringing Altuve to the plate. Game 2 of the 2017 World Series wasn't short on power, with each team connecting on four long balls, and five home runs coming in extra innings alone.

Heading into the 2022 ALCS, Altuve ranks second all-time with 23 postseason home runs (and tops in first-inning playoff blasts). He trails only Manny Ramirez, who hit a record 29 bombs in his playoff career. Jose Altuve #27 of the Houston Astros reacts after hitting a solo home run off of Chris Sale #41 of the Boston Red Sox during the fifth inning of game one of the American League Division Series on October 5, 2017 at Minute Maid Park in Houston.
Trout was pulled from the middle of Tuesday’s game with upper back spasms that he was trying to play through. His back started feeling sore while the team was in Miami for a series with the Marlins last week. Notably missing from that final list was Shohei Ohtani, who fans hoped would make another appearance at the All-Star week event. The Astros went on to win in 10 innings on a walk-off single by Alex Bregman, and they would clinch the franchise's first World Series a few days later in Los Angeles. The Astros found themselves trailing the Red Sox 3-1 entering the bottom of the sixth in Game 1 of the ALCS, but Altuve changed that outlook with one swing of the bat.

With the derby now settled, fans can continue to wait to learn when Ohtani will pitch and play as a designated hitter in the All-Star Game. Jose Altuve #27 of the Houston Astros celebrates with Alex Bregman #2 after hitting a three-run home run in the fifth inning of Game 5 of the 2017 World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Minute Maid Park on October 29, 2017 in Houston. Jose Altuve #27 of the Houston Astros rounds the bases after hitting a solo home run in the 10th inning of Game 2 of the 2017 World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium on October 25, 2017 in Los Angeles. While it didn't come in a Houston victory, the fact that it occurred during a close World Series matchup puts this one ahead of some of the others from winning efforts. Altuve put the Astros up 2-0 with a solo home run in the top of the fourth, but they didn't score again in a 3-2 loss. Jose Altuve #27 of the Houston Astros hits a solo home run against Kyle Wright #30 of the Atlanta Braves during the fourth inning in Game Four of the World Series at Truist Park on October 30, 2021 in Atlanta.
The final score of 9-2 doesn't give justice to how close Game 4 of the 2021 ALCS actually was. Altuve came to the plate with the Red Sox up 2-1 in the top of the eighth, and proceeded to hit a game-tying solo shot over the Green Monster. Houston tacked on seven more runs in the ninth to secure the victory and tie the series at two games apiece. The 2018 ALDS was about as dominant as it gets for the Astros, who swept the Cleveland Indians in three games with a plus-15 run differential.

Bagwell is followed within this ranking by Lance Berkman with a total of 326 home runs recorded throughout his career. The visit from his football team lifted Garcia's spirits, his mom told CBS News. In the midst of the ALCS, Houston Astros star Carlos Correa made time to visit a teen battling cancer in the hospital and made a promise that filled him with hope.
Álvarez launched the second come-from-behind walk-off home run in postseason history by a team down to its final out. The first came off the bat of Kirk Gibson for the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 1 of the 1988 World Series. When asked about whether Trout would be out of the starting lineup the final two games before the All-Star break, Nevin said he hoped to add him back to the starting lineup for Friday’s Freeway Series opener, if he continued to feel good.

Katy is one of Houston’s most prominent near-western suburbs, welcoming big city money to a small town vibe. With multiple open lots listed in the $6 million range, the beefiest house in the neighborhood is the $12.5 million estate on Schlipf Road. Sitting at the center of 24 unrestricted acres, the 3,286 square foot home is the centerpiece of a ranch environment stocked with multiple ponds, fire pits, a gazebo, livestock barns, open pastures and its own bunker complex. Everything from horses to cattle are legal and welcome on the acreage. The Astros may now have won the award for this season's best home run celebration.
Mike Trout was left out of the Angels’ starting lineup for a second game in a row on Thursday, their series finale against the Astros at Angel Stadium. Interim manager Phil Nevin planned to leave him off the starting lineup both Wednesday and Thursday. There might be more impactful individual home runs on Altuve's résumé, but it's tough to ignore the significance of his first postseason long ball.
“I’m just glad he’s on my side for at least one day versus on the other side because, man, he can pitch,” Baker also said of Ohtani after watching him pick apart his Astros on Wednesday. On Thursday, before the Angels’ 3-2 extra-inning loss to the Houston Astros, American League All-Star Game manager Dusty Baker said Ohtani was willing to do whatever Baker wanted him to. Ohtani on Wednesday said he still had not made a decision whether to participate in this year’s derby because he was unsure of how long he would play in the All-Star Game the next day.
Houston won Game 1 of the 2017 ALDS comfortably, posting three multi-run innings in an 8-2 win over Boston. Altuve made Astros history in the process, becoming the club's first player to hit three home runs in a postseason game. The second of these was a solo shot off Chris Sale in the bottom of the fifth that stretched Houston's lead to three runs. Altuve got the Astros started on a promising note in the 2020 ALCS, hitting a solo shot off Tampa Bay pitcher Blake Snell in the top of the first inning of Game 1. Unfortunately for Houston, the team failed to score again throughout the 2-1 loss, despite recording nine hits compared to just six for Tampa Bay.
